Windows 2008: Device manager in read-only mode
Problem:
When trying to launch ServerManager to use the device manager, I get an error message saying Device manager is running read-only mode because I'm on a remote connection. I am not.
 
Solution:
ServerManager.msc is braindead. Open the device manager via the Control Panel instead: Start -> Control Panel -> Device Manager
