VMware ESX: Power off guest timed out, can't power on or off
Problem:
When trying to power off a VM, the operation timed out. Any further attempts to power on or off fails with the error stating that another operation is in progress.
 
Solution:
1. Connect to the ESX node using ssh
2. Execute 'vm-support –x'
3. Find the 'vmid' for the VM
4. Execute 'vm-support –X ' (Note the different case x/X)
5. Answer 'n' to the first question, then 'y' and 'y'
6. This will produce a core dump, keep an eye on the disk space
