Windows 2000 ODBC connection to SQL Server 2005 fails
Problem:
Trying to configure ODBC on a Windows 2000 Workstation, Server or Terminal Server, the ODBC client fails with messages such as "the server cannot be found", "hostname lookup failure" etc.
 
Solution:
The SQL Server ODBC driver that shipped with Windows 2000 does not support SQL Server 2005. Download and install Microsoft Data Access Components 2.8 from www.microsoft.com. (Requires a reboot)
