CentOS 5.2 under VMware ESX Server 2.5.1 can't find hard drive
Problem:
When trying to install CentOS 5.2 as a guest OS under VMware ESX Server 2.5.1 the guest can't find any suitable hard drive.
 
Solution:
Change the virtual SCSI controller from "vmxbuslogic" to "vmxlsilogic". This solution applies to several Linux distros.
