CentOS 5.2 under VMware ESX Server 2.5.1 extremely slow
Problem: When trying to install CentOS 5.2 as a guest OS under VMware ESX Server 2.5.1 the guest runs extremely slow and frequently appears to hang.
Solution: 1. Instead of "`GNU/Linux`", select "`Windows XP`" as the guest operating system. 2. Add the option "`tools.timesync=yes`" to the virtual machine. 3. Start the installation with the following kernel arguments: "`linux clocksource=acpi_pm divider=10`" 4. When installing the GRUB bootloader, make sure the same kernel arguments are added. 5. Install vmware-tools. Always.
