Linux: Manually check zone transfers using "dig"
Problem:
When troubleshooting DNS problems, it is sometimes useful to employ the "dig" utility. Unfortunately, the syntax is far from obvious...
 
Solution:
To attempt a zone transfer from any DNS server:
# dig axfr domain.name.here

To attempt a zone transfer from a specific DNS server:
# dig axfr @dns.server.here domain.name.here
