How to make a crossover twisted-pair cable for uplinks
Problem:
This article explains how to make a crossover twisted-pair cable used for switch/hub uplinks or direct PC-to-PC connections.
 
Solution:
Connect the pairs as follows:
For category 3 cabling: 1-3, 2-6, 3-1, 6-2
For category 5 cabling: 1-3, 2-6, 3-1, 4-4, 5-5, 6-2, 7-7, 8-8
...or to put it simple: Cross pairs 1-3 and 2-6
(Cat.3 is 10Mbit ethernet, Cat.5 is 100Mbit and higher)
