Windows 2000: How to enable WINS server for legacy clients
Problem:
WINS is no longer needed if all clients on the network are running W2K or newer. However, if there are legacy clients on the network, you must have a WINS server in order to use Windows Notworking.

Solution:
1. Click Start.
2. Point to Settings.
3. Click Control Panel.
4. Click Add/Remove program.
5. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
6. Click Networking Services.
7. Click Details.
8. Verify that the WINS Server check box is selected, and properly configured on the network. Also verify that it is functioning.
