Running "make" on BSD to compile a tarball gives weird errors
Problem:
After downloading and untar'ing a piece of software and running "make" to compile it, it fails with unexpected error messages similar to these: # make "server/Rules.mk", line 53: Need an operator "language/Rules.mk", line 42: Need an operator Error expanding embedded variable.

Solution:
Try using "gmake" instead of "make"
