Cisco 1600 will not exchange username and password when doing dial-up
Problem:
My Cisco 1605 refused to authenticate when configuring it to dial another cisco-router. Only username seen in debug mode was remote node username / host.
 
Solution:
Enable RIP (Routing Information Protocol) and off ya go!

That made chap-packets go over the line (seemed that it would not send a single packet at all)...
